Microcef O Tablets(Cefpodoxime+Ofloxacin)

  • Each tablet contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 mg + Ofloxacin 200mg.
  • It is indicated for lower and upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections (UTI)
  • Cefpodoxime is a bactericidal agent that acts by inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cefpodoxime has activity in the presence of some beta-lactamases, both penicillinases and cephalosporinases, of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Ofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It functions by inhibiting DNA gyrase, a type II topoisomerase, and topoisomerase IV,which is an enzyme necessary to separate (mostly in prokaryotes, in bacteria in particular) replicated DNA, thereby inhibiting bacterial cell division.
  • One tablet per day or as directed by the physician
  • Cefpodoxime Proxetil is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Cefpodoxime or to the Cephalosporin group of antibiotics.
  • In patients with transient or persistent reduction in urinary output due to renal insufficiency, the total daily dose of Cefpodoxime Proxetil should be reduced.
  • There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in human pregnancy, lactation and children.
  • Antacids: Concomitant administration of high doses of antacids (sodium bicarbonate and aluminum hydroxide) or H2-blockers reduces peak plasma levels of cefpodoxime. Probenecid: As with other beta-lactam antibiotics, renal excretion of cefpodoxime was inhibited by probenecid
  • The side effects include diarrhoea, nausea, skin & vaginal fungal infection, abdominal pain, dyspepsia
  • Anti-Bacterials
