Each tablet contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 mg + Ofloxacin 200mg.
It is indicated for lower and upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections (UTI)
Cefpodoxime is a bactericidal agent that acts by inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cefpodoxime has activity in the presence of some beta-lactamases, both penicillinases and cephalosporinases, of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Ofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It functions by inhibiting DNA gyrase, a type II topoisomerase, and topoisomerase IV,which is an enzyme necessary to separate (mostly in prokaryotes, in bacteria in particular) replicated DNA, thereby inhibiting bacterial cell division.
One tablet per day or as directed by the physician
Cefpodoxime Proxetil is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Cefpodoxime or to the Cephalosporin group of antibiotics.
In patients with transient or persistent reduction in urinary output due to renal insufficiency, the total daily dose of Cefpodoxime Proxetil should be reduced.
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in human pregnancy, lactation and children.
Antacids: Concomitant administration of high doses of antacids (sodium bicarbonate and aluminum hydroxide) or H2-blockers reduces peak plasma levels of cefpodoxime. Probenecid: As with other beta-lactam antibiotics, renal excretion of cefpodoxime was inhibited by probenecid
The side effects include diarrhoea, nausea, skin & vaginal fungal infection, abdominal pain, dyspepsia
