Ritecef OF Tablets (Cefexime + Ofloxacin)

• Composition :
  Each tablet contains Cefixime 200mg and ofloxacin 200mg.
• Indications :
  For the treatment of patients with typhoid fever and urinary tract infection in adults.
• Pharmacodynamics :
  Cefixime is a semi-synthetic, oral third-generation cephalosporin, which has marked in vitro bactericidal activity against a wide variety of gram-positive and gram-negative organisms. Bactericidal action of cefixime results from inhibition of cell-wall synthesis. Ofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It functions by inhibiting DNA gyrase, a type II topoisomerase, and topoisomerase IV, which is an enzyme necessary to separate (mostly in prokaryotes, in bacteria in particular) replicated DNA, thereby inhibiting bacterial cell division.
• Dosage and administration :
  one tablet every 12 hours for 10 to 14 days
• Contraindications :
  contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of the components of the product.
• Precautions and warnings :
  Anaphylactic/anaphylactoid reactions (including shock and fatalities) have been reported with the use of cefixime. The dose should be adjusted in patients with renal impairment as well as those undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis. • Use in pregnancy, lactation & pediatrics :
  should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother ,Efficacy and safety in pediatric patients have not been established.
• Drug interactions :
  Increased prothrombin time, with or without clinical bleeding, has been reported when cefixime is administered concomitantly with warfarin and anticoagulants. Drug monitoring may be of assistance in detecting alterations in carbamazepine plasma concentrations as elevated carbamazepine levels have been reported.
• Adverse reactions :
  Most common adverse reactions are gastrointestinal such as diarrhea, nausea, loose stools, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, and vomiting.
