Levobact (Levofloxacin)

  • Each tablet contains Levofloxacin 250 mg/500 mg/750mg. Each vial contains Levofloxacin 500mg in 100ml Inj.
  • In treatment of acute maxillary sinusitis, acute bacterial exacerbation, chronic bronchitis, community acquired pneumoniae, skin & soft tissue infection, complicated urinary tract infection or acute pyelonephritis.
  • Levofloxacin is a member of the fluoroquinolone class of antibacterial agents. Levofloxacin has been shown to be active againstaerobic Gram-Positive -and-Negative micro-organisms.
  • The usual dose of levofloxacin tablets is 250 mg, 500 mg or 750 mg administered once orally every 24 hours based on type of infection. Levofloxacin tablets can be administered without regard to food.The usual dose of levofloxacin I.V. solution is 250 mg or 500 mg administered by slow infusion over 60 minutes every 24 hours, or 750 mg administered by slow infusion over 90 minutes every 24 hours, based on the type of infection.
  • Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients/components of the product.
  • Fluoroquinolones, including levofloxacin, are associated with an increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture in all ages. Levofloxacin injection should be used with caution in patients with a known or suspected central nervous system (CNS) disorder that may predispose them to seizures or lower the seizure threshold. Hematologic (including agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia), and renal toxicities may occur after multiple doses. Hepatotoxicity: Severe, and sometimes fatal, hepatoxicity has been reported. Discontinue immediately if signs and symptoms of hepatitis occur.
  • Pregnancy category C. A decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother. Safety and effectiveness of levofloxacin in pediatric patients below the age of six months have not been established.
  • The concomitant administration of a NSAIDs with levofloxacin, may increase the risk of CNS stimulation and convulsive seizures. No dosage adjustment for levofloxacin or digoxin is required when administered concomitantly. Probenecid increases the plasma levels of levofloxacin.
