Gramocef O 50_ 100 Dry Syrup (Cefixime)

  • Each 5ml of dry syrup contains Cefixime 50/ 100 mg.
  • Indicated for the treatment of typhoid fever, UTI, respiratory tract infections, biliary tract infections.
  • Cefixime is a semi-synthetic, oral third-generation cephalosporin, which has marked in vitro bactericidal activity against a wide variety of gram-positive and gram-negative organisms. Bactericidal action of cefixime results from inhibition of bacterial cell-wall synthesis.
  • The recommended dose is 8 mg/kg/day of the suspension. This may be administered as a single daily dose or may be given in two divided doses, as 4 mg/kg every 12 hours..The safety and efficacy of cefixime has not been established in children less than 6 months.
  • Cefixime is contraindicated in patients with a known allergy to cefixime or other cephalosporins or any of the other components of the product.
  • Cefixime should be given with caution to patients who have shown hypersensitivity to other drugs. Prolonged use of cefixime may result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms. Discontinue cefexime in patients who develop, Clostridium difficile Associated Diarrhea. (CDAD). Cefixime may be associated with a fall in prothrombin activity
  • Elevated carbamazepine levels have been reported, when cefixime is administered concomitantly. Drug monitoring may be of assistance in detecting alterations in carbamazepine plasma concentrations.Increased prothrombin time, with or without clinical bleeding, has been reported when cefixime is administered concomitantly with warfarin and anticoagulant
  • Most common adverse reactions are gastrointestinal such as diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, and vomiting.
