Gramocef CV Tablets (Cefixime + Clavulanic acid)

  • Each tablet contains Cefixime 200mg + Clavulanic Acid 125 mg.
  • Indicated for: Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTIs), otitis media, pharyngitis and tonsillitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, UTI, biliary tract infections and dental infections.
  • Cefixime is a semi-synthetic, oral third-generation cephalosporin, antibacterial drug. Bactericidal action of cefixime results from inhibition of cell-wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid is an irreversible “suicide” inhibitor of intracellular and extracellular beta-lactamases, demonstrating concentration-dependent and competitive inhibition. It has a high affinity for the class A beta-lactamases.
  • Children over 10 Years of Age and Adults: One tablet twice daily. The usual course of treatment is 7 days. This may be continued for up to 14 days if required.
  • Cefixime is contraindicated in patients with a known allergy to cefixime or other cephalosporins or any of the other components of the product.
  • Anaphylactic/anaphylactoid reactions (including shock and fatalities) have been reported with the use of cefixime.If an allergic reaction to cefixime occurs, discontinue the drug.If Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) is suspected or confirmed, ongoing antibiotic use not directed against C. difficile may need to be discontinued. Appropriate fluid and electrolyte management, protein supplementation, antibiotic treatment of C. difficile, and surgical evaluation should be instituted as clinically indicated.
  • There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in human pregnancy and lactation. Efficacy and safety in infants aged less than six months have not been established. This product should only be used in pregnancy if considered essential by the physician.
  • Elevated carbamazepine levels have been reported in postmarketing experience when cefixime is administered concomitantly. Increased prothrombin time, with or without clinical bleeding, has been reported when cefixime is administered concomitantly with warfarin and anticoagulants.
  • Most common adverse reactions are gastrointestinal such as diarrhea,nausea, loose stools , abdominal pain , dyspepsia , and vomiting.
