Zovane Tablets (Vilazodone)

  • Each tablet contains Vilazodone hydrochlorie 20mg / 40mg
  • Indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults.
  • Vilazodone is a partial agonist at serotonergic 5-HTreceptors. Vilazodone binds with high affinity to the serotonin reuptake site and selectively inhibits reuptake of serotonin. The mechanism of the antidepressant effect of vilazodone is related to its enhancement of serotonergic activity in the CNS through selective inhibition of serotonin reuptake.
  • Recommended target dosage: 20 mg to 40 mg once daily with food. To titrate: start with initial dosage of 10 mg once daily for 7 days, followed by 20 mg once daily. The dose may be increased up to 40 mg once daily after a minimum of 7 days between dosage increase.
  • Do not use Vilazodone concomitantly with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) or within 14 days of stopping or starting an MAOI.
  • Monitor patients for clinical worsening and suicidal thinking or behavior; Serotonin Syndrome or Neuroleptic Malignant (NMS)-like Syndrome can occur, Use with caution in patients with a seizure disorder; risk of abnormal bleeding with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), aspirin, or other drugs that affect coagulation; When discontinuing treatment, reduce the dose gradually; Hyponatremia can occur in association with the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH).
  • Use in pregnancy only if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks, Women should breast feed only if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks, since there are no human data regarding Vilazodone concentrations in breast milk. Safety and efficacy of Vilazodone in pediatric patients have not been studied.
  • The Vilazodone dose should be reduced, when co-administered with CYP3A4 strong inhibitors. Concomitant use of Vilazodone with inducers of CYP3A4 can result in inadequate drug concentrations and may diminish effectiveness. The concomitant use of MAOIs and serotonergic drugs increases the risk of serotonin syndrome.
  • The most common adverse reactions are diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and insomnia.
  • Anti-Depressants
