Limbival and Limbival Forte Tablets (Amitriptyline + Chlordiazepoxide Tablets _ Amitriptyline + Chlordiazepoxide)
Each Limbival tablet contains Amitriptyline 12.5mg + Chlordiazepoxide 5 mg and Limbival Forte contains Amitriptyline 25mg + Chlordiazepoxide 10 mg
Indicated for the treatment of depression associated with anxiety
Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant, interferes with the reuptake of norepinephrine into adrenergic nerve endings, this action may prolong the sympathetic activity of biogenic amines. Chlordiazepoxide is a benzodiazepine (BZD) has been shown to act on the limbic system. Evidence indicates that the limbic system is involved in an emotional response.
Tablets are recommended in an initial dosage of 3 or 4 tablets daily in divided doses; this may be increased to 6 tablets daily as required.
Thoughts of suicide and worsening of depression may increase when starting antidepressants. Patients with manic-depressive illness may enter into a manic phase alcohol is not advised as it might increase the sedative effect.
Safety and efficacy have not been established in pregnancy and lactation, Limited human data suggest that the drug could represent a significant risk to the newborn.
Because of its amitriptyline component, Limbival and Limbival Forte may block the antihypertensive action of guanethidine or compounds with a similar mechanism of action.
The most common adverse reactions are drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation and bloating.
