Cefglobe S Forte 1.5 and 3gm injection (Cefoperazone + Sulbactam)

  • Each vial contains Cefoperazone 1g/2g + Sulbactam 0.5g/1g (2:1 ratio)
  • Indicated for specific subset of patient’simmune compromised febrile neutropenic cancer patients
  • Cefoperazone, is a third-generation cephalosporin, which acts against sensitive organisms during the stage of active multiplication by inhibiting the biosynthesis of cell wall mucopeptide. Sulbactam is an irreversible inhibitor of β-lactamase; by binding and inhibiting β-lactamase produced by bacterial cells, sulbactam is thereby able to prevent it from reducing antibiotic activity. Although sulbactam alone possesses little useful antibacterial activity, except against the Neisseria, whole organism studies have shown that sulbactam restores ampicillin activity against beta-lactamase producing strains. In particular, sulbactam has good inhibitory activity against the clinically important plasmid mediated beta-lactamases most frequently responsible for transferred drug resistance
  • The usual adult daily dose of cefoperazoneis 2 to 4 grams per day administered in equally divided doses every 12 hours
  • Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to the cephalosporinclass of antibacterial drugs
  • Serious and occasionally fatal hypersensitivity (anaphylactic) reactions have been reported in patients receiving beta-lactam antibacrerials, including cefoperazone. Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea (CDAD) has been reported with use of nearly all antibacterial agents, including cefoperazone, and may range in severity from mild diarrhea to fatal colitis. Serious hemorrhage cases, including fatalities, have been reported with cefoperazone. concomitant administration of aminoglycosides and other cephalosporins has caused nephrotoxicity. Disulfiram like reactions have been reported
  • This drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman. Safety and effectiveness in children have not been established
  • A reaction characterized by flushing, sweating, headache and tachycardia has been reported when alcohol was ingested during and as late as the fifth day aftercefoperazone administration. A similar reaction has been reported with certain other cephalosporins and patients should be cautioned concerning the ingestion of alcoholic beverages in conjunction with the administration of sulbactam/cefoperazone
  • Hypersensitivity reactions, reversible neutropenia, decreased haemoglobin, diarrhoea, loose stools, transient elevation of serum creatinine and BUN, Jaundice, hepatic dysfunction
  • Anti-Bacterials
