Channel Tablets (Diltiazem Hydrochloride)

  • Diltiazem Hydrochloride 30mg / 60mg Tablets.
  • Hypertension and improving exercise tolerance in patients with chronic stable angina.
  • Diltiazem is calcium channel antagonist, inhibits the cellular influx of calcium ions during membrane depolarization of cardiac and vascular smooth muscle. Decreases sinoatrial and atrioventricular conduction in isolated tissues and has a negative inotropic effect.
  • Starting with 30 mg four times daily, before meals and at bedtime, dosage should be increased gradually (given in divided doses three or four times daily) at 1- to 2-day intervals until optimum response is obtained. Average optimum dosage range appears to be 180 to 360 mg/day.
  • Contraindicated in patients with sick sinus syndrome except in the presence of a functioning ventricular pacemaker, second-or third-degree AV block except in the presence of a functioning ventricular pacemaker, hypersensitivity, hypotension (<90 mm Hg), acute myocardial infarction and pulmonary congestion.
  • Bradycardia or AV block, heart failure and acute hepatic injury.
  • Pregnancy category C, use only if potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Diltiazem is excreted in human milk. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established.
  • Beta blockers, digitalis, and other agents known to impair conduction, bradycardia and heart failure when used with Diltiazem.CYP450 3A4: Diltiazem is both a substrate and inhibitor of CYP450 3A4, substrates require dosage adjustment.
  • The most common adverse reactions are lower limb edema, sinus congestion and rash in patients treated for hypertension and lower limb edema, headache, dizziness, bradycardia, first-degree AV block in patients treated for angina.
  • Anti-Anginals
