Meconerv Injection (Methylcobalamin)

  • Each ml contains Methylcobalamin of 500 mcg
  • For Vitamins and Minerals deficiency states in adult patients.
  • Methylcobalamin is a form of Vitamin B12 essential for growth, cell reproduction, hematopoiesis, and nucleoprotein and myelin synthesis with profound neurological effect. Mecobalamin is converted to a cofactor, which is essential for the conversion of methylmalonate to succinate and synthesis of methionine from homocysteine. It is a neurotrophic and acts as a growth promoter for nerve cells, acts as a methyl donor for the synthesis of Lecithin, a major component of the Myelin sheath.
  • The usual dosage for adults is 1 ampoule (500 µg of mecobalamin) daily, administered intramuscularly or intravenously 3 times a week. After about 2 months of medication, the dose should be reduced to a single administration of 1ampoule at 1 to 3 months intervals for maintenance therapy.
  • In patients hypersensitive to mecobalamin or other components of the formulation.
  • Mecobalamin is susceptible to photolysis. It should be used promptly after the package is opened, and caution should be taken so as not to expose the ampules to direct light. In intramuscular administration, caution should be exercised to avoid adverse effects on tissues or nerves.
  • There are no adequate and well-controlled studies. Safety and efficacy in these populations have not been established.
  • Absorption of vitamin B12 from the gastrointestinal tract may be reduced by neomycin, aminosalicylic acid, histamine H2-antagonists, omeprazole, and colchicine. Serum concentrations may be decreased by use of oral contraceptives.
  • Most common adverse reaction are skin irritation and/or pain in the site of injection, bruising around the area of injection.
