Meconerv Plus (Methylcobalamin + Folic acid + Pyridoxine + Alpha lipoic acid Capsules)

  • Each capsule contains Methylcobalamin 750 mcg + Folic acid 1.5 mg + Pyridoxine 3 mg + Alpha lipoic acid 100 mg Soft Gelatin Capsules.
  • Indicated for diabetic neuropathy.
  • Alpha-lipoic acid and its reduced metabolite, dihydrolipoic acid (DHLA), form a redox couple and may scavenge a wide range of reactive oxygen species. Pyridoxine hydrochloride is Vitamin B6. It is converted to pyridoxal phosphate which is the co-enzyme for a variety of metabolic transformations. The mucosa of the duodenum and upper part of the jejunum are rich in dihydrofolate reductase, where folates and folic acid are absorbed. Once absorbed, folic acid is rapidly reduced and then methylated to form tetrahydrofolic acid derivatives which are rapidly transported to the tissues.
  • One capsule once daily after food.
  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any other component of this product.
  • Folate should not be routinely used in patients receiving coronary stents. Caution should be exercised when administering folic acid to patients who may have folate dependent tumours. Because of lack of long-term safety data, alpha-lipoic acid should be avoided by pregnant women and nursing mothers. Blood glucose should be monitored and anti-diabetic drug dose adjusted, if necessary, to avoid possible hypoglycemia.
  • There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in human pregnancy, lactation & children. This product should only be used in pregnancy if considered essential by the physician.
  • Supplemental alpha-lipoic acid may lower blood glucose levels. Those with diabetes on anti-diabetic medication should have their blood glucose monitored and antidiabetic drug dose appropriately adjusted, if necessary, to avoid possible hypoglycemia. Absorption of folic acid may be reduced by sulfasalazine.
  • The most common adverse effects are rashes, headache, abdominal distension, flatulence, anorexia and nausea.
