Meconerv Tablet (Methylcobalamin)

  • Each tablet contains Methylcobalamin 500 mcg / 1500 mcg.
  • Megaloblastic anaemia caused by vitamin B12 deficiency and peripheral neuropathy.
  • Methylcobalamin is a form of Vitamin B12 essential for growth, cell reproduction, hematopoiesis, and nucleoprotein and myelin synthesis with profound neurological effect. Mecobalamin is converted to a cofactor, which is essential for the conversion of methylmalonate to succinate and synthesis of methionine from homocysteine.
  • The recommended dose is 500 mcg three times daily or 1500 mcg once daily of methylcobalamin. The dosage may be adjusted as required.
  • Leber’s disease and hypersensitivity to mecobalamin or other components of the formulation.
  • The prolonged use of larger doses of methyl cobalamin is not recommended for patients whose occupation requires the handling of mercury. Regular monitoring of the blood is advisable. Haematological symptoms of B12 deficiency and folate deficiency are similar, it is important to distinguish both of them. Mecobalamin injection should not be used over a period of months if there is lack of satisfactory clinical response in patients with megaloblastic anemia.
  • There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on safety and efficacy in pregnant, lactating & paediatric patients.
  • Absorption of vitamin B12 from the gastrointestinal tract may be reduced by neomycin, amino salicylic acid, histamine H2-antagonists, omeprazole, and colchicine. Serum concentrations may be decreased by use of oral contraceptives.
  • Most common adverse reaction are asthenia, back pain, generalized pain, infection, peripheral vascular disorder, dyspepsia, glossitis, nausea, vomiting, myalgia, paraesthesia, rash, anorexia, nausea/vomiting, diarrhoea and headache.
