Angiplat Capsules (Nitroglycerin)

  • Each capsule contains 2.5/6.5mg of Glyceryl Trinitrate.
  • Acute relief of an attack or acute prophylaxis of angina pectoris due to coronary artery disease.
  • Nitroglycerin forms free radical nitric oxide (NO) which activates guanylate cyclase, resulting in an increase of guanosine 3’5’ monophosphate (cyclic GMP) in smooth muscle and other tissues. These events lead to dephosphorylation of myosin light chains, which regulate the contractile state in smooth muscle and results in vasodilation.
  • The usual adult dose is 2.5mg/6.5mg of nitroglycerin three to four times a day.
  • Angiplat is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to nitrates, hypotension, hypovolemia and raised intracranial pressure
  • Severe hypotension with upright posture may occur with even small doses, may aggravate angina caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
  • Pregnancy: Use is recommended only if clearly needed and the benefit outweighs the risk. Nursing Mothers: Caution to be taken when administered in nursing mothers Pediatrics: safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established.
  • It may have drug interactions with antipsychotics, aspirin, NSAIDs, nitric oxide donor medicines, sildenafil and tadalafil. The vasodilating effects of nitroglycerin may be additive with those of other vasodilators. Marked symptomatic orthostatic hypotension has been reported when calcium channel blockers and organic nitrates were used in combination.
  • Headache that may be severe and persistent may occur immediately after use. Vertigo, dizziness, weakness, palpitation and other manifestations of postural hypotension may develop occasionally, particularly in erect and immobile patients.
