Ebast Tablets (Ebastine)

  • Each film-coated tablet contains Ebastine 10 mg/ 20mg.
  • For the treatment of seasonal & perennial allergic rhinitis & chronic idiopathic urticaria.
  • Ebastine, a piperidine derivative, is a long-acting, non-sedating, second-generation histamine receptor antagonist that binds preferentially to peripheral H1 receptors. It has antihistaminic, anti-allergic activity and prevents histamine-induced bronchoconstriction. It does not have significant sedative or anti-muscarinic actions.
  • Adults and children (>12 years of age): 10 mg (one tablet) once daily. In cases of severe symptoms the dose may be increased to 20 mg ebastine.
  • Hypersensitivity to ebastine or to any of the other excipients of the product.
  • Caution should be exercised when ebastine is administered to patients with known prolongation of the QTc interval on the electrocardiogram, hypokalemia hepatic impairment and renal insufficiency
  • There are limited amount of data from the use of ebastine in pregnant women. Hence, avoid the use of ebastine during pregnancy. Not recommended for use during lactation. The safety and efficacy of ebastine in children under the age of 12 years have not been established.
  • Caution should be exercised when using ebastine, with any medicine known to produce an increase in QT interval. Drugs which inhibit CYP3A4 enzyme systems such as azole antifungals (ketoconazole and itraconazole) and macrolide antibiotics (erythromycin) may result in increased plasma concentrations of ebastine.
  • The most common side effects are headache, dry mouth and drowsiness.
  • Anti-Allergics
