Ebast DC Tablets (Ebastine + Phenylephrine)

  • Each film-coated tablet contains Ebastine 10 mg + Phenylephrine 10 mg.
  • For the symptomatic treatment of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.
  • Ebastine, a piperidine derivative, is a long-acting, non-sedating, second-generation histamine receptor antagonist that binds preferentially to peripheral H1 receptors. It has antihistaminic, anti-allergic activity and prevents histamine-induced bronchoconstriction. It does not have significant sedative or antimuscarinic actions. Phenylephrine is a sympathomimetic agent with mainly direct effects on adrenergic receptors. It has predominantly alpha adrenergic activity and is without stimulating effects on the central nervous system.
  • Adults and children (>12 years): One tablet daily orally as directed by the physician.
  • Hypersensitivity to active ingredients or to any of the other excipients of the product.
  • Ebastine- Caution should be exercised when ebastine is administered to patients with known prolongation of the QTc interval on the electrocardiogram, hypokalemia hepatic impairment and renal insufficiency. Phenylephrine: Caution should be used in patients with angina, heart failure and hypertension. Phenylephrine has the potential of causing bradycardia and decreased cardiac output.
  • Not recommended for use during pregnancy. Avoid use during lactation. Ebast-M is not recommended in children under 12 years of age.
  • Caution should be exercised when using ebastine, with any medicine known to produce an increase in QT interval. Drugs which inhibit CYP3A4 enzyme systems such as azole antifungals (ketoconazole and itraconazole) and macrolide antibiotics (erythromycin) may result in increased plasma concentrations of ebastine. Phenylephrine shows agonistic effects with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI), β-adrenergic blocking agents, α-2 adrenergic agonists, steroids, tricyclic antidepressants, and norepinephrine transport inhibitors, ergot alkaloids, centrally-acting sympatholytic agents and atropine sulfate.
  • The most common side effects are drowsiness, headache, nausea, dry mouth, vomiting and nervousness.
  • Anti-Allergics
