Allercet DC Tablets (Cetirizine + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride)

  • Each tablet contains: Cetirizine dihydrochloride 10 mg, Phenylephrine hydrochloride 10 mg.
  • Indicated for the symptomatic treatment of common cold and nasal congestion
  • Cetirizine, a human metabolite of hydroxyzine, is an antihistamine; its principal effects are mediated via selective inhibition of peripheral H1 receptors. Phenylephrine is a sympathomimetic agent with mainly direct effects on adrenergic receptors. It has predominantly alpha adrenergic activity and that causes vasoconstriction and relieves nasal congestion.
  • One tablet daily or as directed by the physician.
  • Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to cetirizine or its parent compound hydroxyzine. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe hypertension or coronary artery disease, patients receiving monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAO) therapy and in patients with hepatic dysfunction.
  • Concurrent use of cetirizine with alcohol or other CNS depressants should be avoided because additional reductions in alertness and additional impairment of CNS performance may occur. May enhance the effects of anticholinergic drugs such as tricyclic antidepressants. Phenylephrine may increase the possibility of arrhythmias in digitalized patients.
  • There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in human pregnancy, lactation and children. This product should be used in pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is not recommended for use by lactating mothers. Not recommended for use in children below the age of 12 years.
  • Antihistamines may enhance the effects of tricyclic antidepressants, barbiturates, alcohol and other CNS depressants. MAO inhibitors prolong and intensify the anticholinergic effects of antihistamines.
  • The major adverse reactions are anorexia, flushing, urinary retention, constipation and dyspepsia.
  • Anti-Allergics
