Uronex D Capsules (Tamsulosin + Dutasteride)

  • Each capsule contains 0.4mg of tamsulosin and 0.5mg of dutasteride
  • Indicated for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
  • Tamsulosin, an alpha1A-adrenoceptor blocking agent, exhibits selectivity for alpha1-receptors in the human prostate. Dutasteride is a competitive and specific inhibitor of both type I and type II 5-alpha-reductase isoenzymes, with which it forms a stable enzyme complex.
  • One capsule daily approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day.
  • Contraindicated in patients known to be hypersensitive to any component of Uronex D capsules. Dutasteride is contraindicated for use in women and children.
  • Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome has been observed during cataract and glaucoma surgery after alpha-adrenergic antagonist exposure. Advise patients considering cataract or glaucoma surgery to tell their ophthalmologist that they take or have taken capsule. Orthostatic hypotension (postural hypotension, dizziness, and vertigo) may occur in patients treated with tamsulosin-containing products, and can result in syncope. Drugs that contain dutasteride may increase the risk of high-grade prostate-cancer. Men being treated with dutasteride should not donate blood until 6-months have passed following the last dose.
  • Pregnancy Category B. Not indicated for use in nursing women. Pediatric Use: Not indicated for use in pediatric populations
  • Tamsulosin had no effect on the pharmacodynamics (excretion of electrolytes) of furosemide. Caution is advised when alpha-adrenergic antagonists, including tamsulosin-containing products such as Uronex D, are co-administered with PDE-5 inhibitors. Dutasteride is metabolized by human CYP 450 enzymes CYP3A4 and CYP3A5, hence to be used in caution when used with CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. ritonavir).
  • The most common adverse events are headache, dizziness, rhinitis, infection, abnormal ejaculation, asthenia, back pain, diarrhea, pharyngitis, chest pain, cough increased, somnolence, nausea, sinusitis, insomnia, libido decreased, tooth disorder, and blurred vision.
