Olmat H Tablets (Olmesartan Medoxomil + Hydrochlorothiazide )

  • Each tablet contains Olmesartan medoxomil 20mg /40mg + Hydochlorothiazide 12.5mg.
  • It is used in the treatment of essential hypertension
  • Olmesartan blocks the vasoconstrictor effects of angiotensin II by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in vascular smooth muscle. Its action is, therefore, independent of the pathways for angiotensin II synthesis.Hydrochlorothiazide blocks the reabsorption of sodium and chloride ions, and it thereby increases the quantity of sodium traversing the distal tubule and the volume of water excreted.
  • The usual recommended starting dose is 20mg /12.5 mg once daily in the morning when used as monotherapy in patients who are not volume-contracted. For patients requiring further reduction in blood pressure after 2 weeks of therapy, the dose may be increased to 40 mg/12.5mg.
  • Contraindicated in patients with Anuria and known hypersensitivity to active ingredients and other excipients of the drug
  • Hypotension: Correct volume-depletion prior to administration. Monitor renal function and potassium in susceptible patients. Observe for signs of fluid or electrolyte imbalance. Use with caution in patients with angle closure glaucoma.
  • FetalToxicity Pregnancy Category D: Avoid use in pregnancy. Avoid use during lactation. Safety and effectiveness of olmesartan and hydrochlorothiazide tablets in pediatric patients have not been established.
  • Olmesartan used concomitantly with NSAIDs use may lead to increased risk of renal impairment and loss of antihypertensive effect. Hydrochlorothiazide- Lithium: The renal clearance of lithium is reduced by thiazides and consequently the risk of lithium toxicity may be increased, dosage adjustment of the antidiabetic drug may be required, if used concomitantly. NSAIDs may reduce the diuretic, natriuretic, and antihypertensive effects of Hydrochlorothiazide.Alcohol, barbiturates, narcotics- potentiate orthostatic hypotension.
  • The most common adverse event dizziness, nausea, electrolyte imbalance, and hyperuricemia.
