Betagel G (Betamethasone + Gentamicin)

  • It consists of Betamethasone dipropionate 0.05% + Gentamicin 0.1% Gel
  • Indicated in the treatment of treatment of infectant dermatoses infection eczema & contact dermatitis.
  • Topical corticosteroids act as anti-inflammatory agents via multiple mechanisms to inhibit late phase allergic reactions including decreasing the density of mast cells, decreasing chemotaxis and activation of eosinophils, decreasing cytokine production by lymphocytes, monocytes, mast cells and eosinophils, and inhibiting the metabolism of arachidonic acid. Gentamicin is bactericidal and is a broad spectrum antibiotic (except against streptococci and anaerobic bacteria). Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis by binding to 30S ribosomes.
  • Apply a thin film to the affected skin areas once or twice daily. Avoid use on the face, groin, or axillae, or if skin atrophy is present at the treatment site. Not for oral, ophthalmic, or intravaginal use.
  • Hypersensitivity to active ingredients or any excipients of the product.
  • Reversible HPA axis suppression with potential for glucocorticoid insufficiency. Increased risk of glaucoma and cataract. The use of topical antibiotics occasionally allows overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. topical antibiotics occasionally allows overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi.
  • There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant and lactation women. Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established. Hence not recommended.
  • Co-administered drugs that can inhibit CYP3A4 (e.g. ritonavir, itraconazole) have been shown to inhibit the metabolism of corticosteroids leading to increased systemic exposure.
