Amlong H Tablets (Amlodipine + Hydrochlorothiazide)

  • Each tablet contains Amlodipine 5mg + Hydrochlorothiazide12.5mg.
  • Indicated in hypertension.
  • Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium antagonist (calcium ion antagonist or slow-channel blocker) that inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. Amlodipine is a peripheral arterial vasodilator that acts directly on vascular smooth muscle to cause a reduction in peripheral vascular resistance and reduction in blood pressure.Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic. It affects the renal tubular mechanisms of electrolyte reabsorption. Hydrochlorothiazide increases excretion of sodium salt and chloride in approximately equivalent amounts. Natriuresis may be accompanied by loss of potassium and bicarbonate.
  • One tablet once daily.
  • Contraindicated in patients with known sensitivity to amlodipine or hydrochlorothiazide, Anuria, severe hepatic impairment. In patients with more severe renal impairment, loop diuretics are preferred to thiazides, so use of this combination should be avoided.
  • Symptomatic hypotension, Worsening angina and acute myocardial infarction, severe hepatic impairment. Hydrochlorothiazide: Hepatic Impairment, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.
  • There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, discontinue lactation when administering Amlodipine 5mg + Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg.Effect on patients less than 6 years old is not known for Amlodipine 5mg + Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg and there are no well-controlled clinical trials in pediatric population.
  • Amlodipine- Co-administration with cimetidine, digoxin, phenytoin, warfarin, and indomethacin did not alter its pharmacokinetics, When Amlodipine and sildenafil were used in combination, each agent independently exerted its own blood pressure lowering effect. Monitor for symptoms of hypotension and edema when amlodipine is co-administered with CYP3A4 inhibitors(e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir).Hydrochlorothiazide-Potentiation of orthostatic hypotension may occur with Alcohol, barbiturates or narcotics, dosage adjustment with antidiabetic drug may be required, Possible increased responsiveness to the muscle relaxant, Lithium should not be given with diuretics.Patient should be observed closely during concomitant use with NSAID.Acute Myopia and Secondary Angle-Closure Glaucoma.
