Monoguard Shampoo (Sertaconazole Nitrate + Zinc Pyrithione)

  • Sertaconazole Nitrate 2% + Zinc Pyrithione 1%.
  • For the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp in adults.
  • Sertaconazole, an azole antifungal agent, inhibits fungal cytochrome P-450-mediated 14 alpha-lanosterol demethylase enzyme. This enzyme converts lanosterol to ergosterol. Ergosterol is a key component of fungal cell membranes and lack of this component leads to fungal cell injury by leakage of key constituents in the cytoplasm from the cell. Zinc Pyrithione acts by inhibiting fungal growth through increased cellular levels of copper, damaging iron-sulphur clusters of proteins essential for fungal metabolism. It has both fungistatic and antimicrobial activities.
