Valprid- CR Tablets (Sodium Valproate + Valproic Acid )

• Composition :
  Each tablet contains controlled release Sodium Valproate and Valproic Acid 200 mg/300 mg /500 mg tablets
• Indications :
  Anti-epileptic drug- indicated in the treatment of all forms of epilepsies.
• Pharmacodynamics :
  It potentiates the inhibitory action of gamma amino butyric acid (GABA)
• Dosage and administration :
  Intended for once-a-day oral administration.Start at 15 mg/kg/day, increasing at 1 week intervals by 5 to 10 mg/kg/day until seizure control or limiting side effects (2.2). The maximum recommended dosage is 60 mg/kg/day.
• Contraindications :
  known hypersensitivity to the drug, Urea cycle disorders, Active liver disease.
• Precautions and warnings :
  Hepatotoxicity; monitor liver function tests.Suicidal behavior or ideation; Pancreatitis, including fatal hemorrhagic cases.
• Use in pregnancy, lactation & pediatrics :
  Pregnancy category D: Contraindicated in pregnancy,can cause congenital malformations including neural tube defects;Valproate is excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when valproate is administered to a nursing woman.Pediatric patients under the age of two years are at a considerably increased risk of developing fatal hepatotoxicit.
• Drug interactions :
  Hepatic enzyme-inducing drugs (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital, primidone, rifampin) can increase valproate clearance, while enzyme inhibitors (e.g., felbamate) can decrease valproate clearance.
• Adverse reactions :
  abdominal pain, alopecia, amblyopia/blurred vision, amnesia, anorexia, asthenia, ataxia, bronchitis, constipation.
