Subunit modulation of the GABAA receptor chloride channel macromolecular complex is hypothesized to be responsible for sedative, anticonvulsant, anxiolytic, and myorelaxant drug properties.
10 mg once daily immediately before bedtime
Known hypersensitivity to zolpidem tartrate or to any of the inactive ingredients in the formulation.
Severe anaphylactic/ anaphylactoid reactions, abnormal thinking, behavioral changes and complex behaviors. Symptoms may occur with rapid dose reduction or discontinuation, worsening of depression or, suicidal thinking may occur. Re-evaluate if insomnia persists after 7 to 10 days of use. Impairment of alertness and motor coordination. Use with caution and monitor closely in patients with hepatic impairment.
Pregnancy: Crosses the placenta. No studies in pregnant women. Nursing mothers: Infant exposure via breast milk. Pediatric use: Safety and effectiveness not established.
Enhanced CNS-depressant effects with combination use, decreased alertness with imipramine, combination use with rifampicin decreases zolpidem effects. Ketoconazole increases exposure to and effect of zolpidem.
