Irex Tablets (Sodium Feredetate + Folic Acid + Cyanocobalamin )

  • Sodium Feredetate 231 mg + Folic Acid IP 1.5 mg + Cyanocobalamin 15 mcg Tablets.
  • For the treatment of iron deficiency anaemia.
  • Sodium Feredetate is a vital component of haemoglobin. Sodium Feredetate is a component of myoglobin, a pigment which stores oxygen in muscle. Vitamin B12 along with Folic Acid is essential for the biosynthesis of nucleotide, to synthesize DNA, repair and methylate DNA and they act as cofactor in biological reactions. It is required to produce healthy RBCs, prevent anemia and for the normal functioning of brain and nervous system.
  • One tablet administered 1-2 times daily.
  • The use of this product is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of this product. Iron preparations are contraindicated in patients with haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis and in patients with in patients receiving repeated blood transfusions or parenteral iron therapy.
  • Caution should be taken in patients with haemolytic anaemia, iron-storage or iron-absorption diseases or existing gastrointestinal diseases. Caution should be exercised when administering folic acid to patients who may have folate dependent tumours.
  • Administration of drugs during the first trimester of pregnancy requires careful assessment of potential risks versus benefits to be gained. No adverse events associated with sodium feredetate administration during pregnancy and lactation have been reported.
  • Avoid concomitant administration of oral iron with dimercaprol (formation of toxic compounds). Iron reduces the absorption of penicillamine, mycophenolate, fluoroquinolones, levodopa, carbidopa, thyroxine and bisphosphonates. Administration of oral iron may reduce the hypotensive effect of methyldopa. Iron and tetracyclines reduce the absorption of each other. Absorption of folic acid may be reduced by Absorption may be reduced by Para-aminosalicylic acid, colchinine, biguanides, neomycin, cholestyramine, potassium chloride, methyldopa, and cimetidine.
  • The most common adverse effects are hypersensitivity, mild diarrhea, gastrointestinal disorders like abdominal distension, flatulence, anorexia and nausea.
