Nitrahex (Chlorhexidine Gluconate)

  • Chlorhexidine Gluconate 0.2%w/w 100 ml bottle with mint flavour
  • Indicated for the treatment of gingivitis, aids prevention of dental plaque formation, For the maintenance of oral hygiene.
  • Nitrahex provides antimicrobial activity during oral rinsing. Its bactericidal action confers to its ability to disrupt the bacterial cell membrane.
  • Recommended use is twice daily oral rinsing for 30 seconds, morning and evening after tooth brushing. Nitrahex is not intended for ingestion and should be expectorated after rinsing.
  • Chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse, 0.2% should not be used by persons who are known to be hypersensitive to Chlorhexidine gluconate or other formula ingredients.
  • The effect of Chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse, 0.12% on periodontitis has not been determined. An increase in supragingival calculus was noted in clinical testing in Chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse users compared with control users. Anaphylaxis, as well as serious allergic reactions, have been reported with use of dental products containing Chlorhexidine. For patients having coexisting gingivitis and periodontitis, the presence or absence of gingival inflammation following treatment with Chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse, 0.12% should not be used as a major indicator of underlying periodontitis. Chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse, can cause staining of oral surfaces, such as tooth surfaces, restorations, and the dorsum of the tongue. Some patients may experience an alteration in taste perception while undergoing treatment with Chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse.
  • Teratogenic Effect. Pregnancy Category B. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in human pregnancy, lactation and children. this drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human milk. Hence, avoid use during lactation. Clinical effectiveness and safety of Chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse, have not been established in children under the age of 18.
  • Chlorhexidine is incompatible with anionic agents which are usually present in conventional dentrifices. These should therefore be used before the mouthwash. Rinse the mouth thoroughly with water before using the mouthwash.
  • The most common side effects associated with Chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinses are: an increase in staining of teeth and other oral surfaces, an increase in calculus formation; and an alteration in taste perception.
