Anxit Plus_Forte (Alprazolam + Sertraline).

  • Each tablet contains Alprazolam 0.5 mg SR + Sertraline 25 mg/50 mg.
  • For the treatment of panic disorder with or without agoraphobia.
  • Alprazolam-CNS agents of the 1,4 benzodiazepine class presumably exert their effects by binding at stereospecific receptors at several sites within the central nervous system. Their exact mechanism of action is unknown. Sertraline- Sertraline potentiates serotonergic activity in the central nervous system through inhibition of neuronal reuptake of serotonin (5-HT).
  • Initially one tablet, once daily. This can be titrated as per requirement.
  • Anxit Plus/Forte tablets are contraindicated in patients with known sensitivity to alprazolam (including other benzodiazepines), sertraline or other excipients in the product. Also contraindicated in patients with untreated angle closure glaucoma.
  • Risks from concomitant use with opioids, dependence and withdrawal reactions including seizures, CNS depression and impaired performance, potential of suicidal behaviour and maniac episodes.
  • Alprazolam (Pregnancy category D) carries the risk of teratogenic effects. Hence, not recommended during pregnancy. Anxit Plus/Forte tablets are not intended to be used during lactation. Not recommended safe to be used in paediatric and adolescent patients below 18 years of age.
  • The concomitant use of benzodiazepines and opioids increases the risk of respiratory depression. Caution should be exercised if Anxit Plus/Forte tablets are to be combined with other psychotropic agents or anticonvulsant drugs. Alprazolam increases plasma concentration of imipramine and desipramine. Alprazolam should be avoided in patients who are receiving inhibitors of CYP3A such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, fluvoxamine, nefazodone and cimetidine, as these drugs increase the plasma concentration of itraconazole. Increased risk of serotonin syndrome when co-administered with other serotonergic agents (e.g., SSRI, SNRI, triptans). Concomitant use of aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), other antiplatelet drugs, warfarin, and other anticoagulants may increase this risk of bleeding.
  • Common adverse effects of alprazolam include: sedation, somnolence, memory impairment, dysarthria, fatigue, depression, dry mouth and constipation. Common adverse effects of sertraline include: Nausea, dyspepsia, tremor, decreased appetite, hyperhidrosis, ejaculation failure, and decreased libido.
