Microvir Tablet (Famcicovr).

• Composition :
  Famciclovir 250 mg /500 mg.
• Indications :
  Indicated in the treatment of Herpes zoster in immunocompetent & immuno compromised patients.
• Pharmacodynamics :
  Famciclovir is a prodrug of penciclovir. Penciclovir triphosphate inhibits HSV DNA polymerase competitively with deoxyguanosine triphosphate. Consequently, herpes viral DNA synthesis and, therefore, replication are selectively inhibited.
• Dosage and administration :
  Genital herpes - 250 mg twice daily, Herpes zoster - 500 mg every 8 hours for 7 days. In immunocompromised patients like HIV 500 mg twice daily for 7 days .
• Contraindications :
  Known hypersensitivity to the product or any other excipients of the formulation.
• Precautions and warnings :
  Acute renal failure may occur in patients with underlying renal disease. Reduce dosage in patients with renal impairment.
• Use in pregnancy, lactation & pediatrics :
  Pregnancy Category B. Famciclovir should be used during pregnancy only ifclearly needed.. It is not known whether famciclovir (prodrug) or penciclovir (active drug) are excreted in human milk. Should be used in nursing mothers if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks. The efficacy and safety of Famciclovir have not been established in pediatric patients.
• Drug interactions :
  Probenecid may increase penciclovir levels monitor for its toxicity.
• Adverse reactions :
  Most common adverse reactions are headache and nausea.
