Anorelief (Lidocaine + Nifedipine)

  • Lidocaine (1.5%) w/w + Nifedipine (0.3%) w/w cream.
  • Treatment of Anal fissures usually associated with anal sphincter hypertonia
  • Nifedipine , a dihydropyridine-acting calcium channel blocker, decreases arterial smooth muscle contractility and subsequent vasoconstriction by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions through L-type calcium channels. It acts by reducing the hypertonia of the internal anal sphinter muscle. Lidocaine is an anesthetic agent indicated for production of local or regional anesthesia and in the treatment of ventricular tachycardia occurring during cardiac manipulation, such as surgery or catheterization, or which may occur during acute myocardial infarction, digitalis toxicity, or other cardiac diseases.
  • Apply the cream two times atleast for 3 weeks.
  • Hypersensitivity to the active and in particular to Lidocaine (or any other anesthetics of a similar type structure) or any other excipients.
  • The topical application of the medicine in excessive doses and/or for prolonged periods of time can give rise to phenomena of sensitization and reactions of local hyperaemia and bleeding that disappear with discontinuation of treatment. Anorelief rectal cream must be used with extreme caution in patients who have severely damaged mucosa and inflammation in the region to be treated, because in such situations there may be an excessive absorption of active ingredients. The medicine should also be used with caution in diabetic patients or those with severe liver and/or kidney malfunction. It is advisable in such cases to check blood pressure at the beginning and periodically during treatment.
  • Anorelief is not recommended during pregnancy, nursing women, and in pediatric population.
  • Cimetidine and propranolol increase plasma concentration and toxicity. Propranolol prolongs the plasma half life of Lidocaine and increases the plasma levels of Nifedipine.
  • Local reactions may occur such as pain, burning, itching, hyperaemia and bleeding. In very rare cases local application of preparations with a basis of Lidocaine causes an allergic reaction.
