Rispond (Risperidone).

  • Each tablet contains Risperidone 1 mg/2 mg/3 mg/4 mg Tablets.
  • The composition is used for the treatment and management of schizophrenia and acute maniac episodes associated with bipolar disorders.
  • Risperidone works by antagonism of combination of dopamine Type 2 (D2 ) and serotonin Type 2 (5HT2) receptors; Trihexyphenidyl is an anticholinergic agent, which acts as a potent indirect dopamine agonist.
  • adult: Schizophrenis- initiate with 2 mg /day, titrate 1-2 mg daily target dose - 4-8 mg daily; in children/ adolescents(10–17 years) Bipolar mania: initiate with 0.5 mg /day, titrate 0.5-1mg daily, target dose 2.5mg /day.
  • Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to active ingredients or excipients in the formulation, Narrow angle glaucoma.
  • should be discontinued at the first sign of clinical symptoms of tardive dyskinesia and Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome. Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis treated with antipsychotic drugs are at an increased risk of death.

It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human milk , should only be used if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the infant. safety and effectiveness not established for schizophrenia less than 13 years of age, for bipolar mania less than 10 years of age, and for autistic disorder less than 5 years of age.
  • Risperidone- Effects of levodopa and dopamine agonists may be antagonized. Cimetidine and ranitidine increase the bioavailability of risperidone.
  • The most common adverse effects are somnolence fatigue, akathisia, hyperglycaemia, Constipation, dizziness, tiredness, blurred vision and dryness in mouth.
