Dibizide M Tablets (Glipizide + Metformin)

  • Each tablet contains Glipizide 5mg + Metformin 500mg.
  • Indicated for non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. Indicated for non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.
  • Dibizide M combines glipizide and metformin hydrochloride, two antihyperglycemic agents with complementary mechanisms of action, to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Glipizide appears to lower blood glucose acutely by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas, an effect dependent upon functioning beta cells in the pancreatic islets. Metformin hydrochloride is an antihyperglycemic agent that improves glucose tolerance in patients with type 2 diabetes, lowering both basal and postprandial plasma glucose.
  • Dibizide M should be given twice daily in the morning and evening with meals.
  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug.Acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis, with or without coma.
  • The metabolism and excretion of glipizide may be slowed in patients with impaired renal and/or hepatic function. If hypoglycemia should occur in such patients, it may be prolonged and appropriate management should be instituted. Alcohol is known to potentiate the effect of metformin on lactate metabolism. Patients, therefore, should be warned against excessive alcohol intake, acute or chronic, while receiving Dibizide M.
  • There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in human pregnancy, lactation & children. This product should only be used in pregnancy if considered essential by the physician.
  • When such drugs are withdrawn from a patient receiving Dibizide M, the patient should be observed closely for hypoglycemia. Metformin is negligibly bound to plasma proteins and is, therefore, less likely to interact with highly protein-bound drugs such as salicylates, sulphonamides, chloramphenicol, and probenecid as compared to sulfonylureas, which are extensively bound to serum proteins.
  • The most common adverse effects are diarrhoea, dizziness, hypertension and nausea/vomiting.
  • Anti-Diabetic agents
